Dr. Matt Lepage, O.D.
Optometrist
Dr. Matt Lepage is proud to care for the Long Lake community and enjoys getting to know the families who call this area home. His wife grew up in nearby Minnetonka, and with much of her family in Long Lake, he has spent years connected to the area long before practicing here. The small-town feel, strong family ties, and easy access to the outdoors are all things he values and is glad to share with his own family. Originally from Canada, he earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Indiana University School of Optometry and has practiced in a variety of clinical settings across the U.S. and Canada. Dr. Matt is passionate about patient education and helping patients of all ages understand their eye health and treatment options.
Originally from Canada, Dr. Matt found early on that he was drawn to the intersection of science, problem-solving, and working closely with people. With a background in zoology and biomedical sciences, he developed a deep appreciation for how vision affects health, confidence, and everyday life—ultimately leading him to pursue optometry.
Dr. Matt completed his Bachelor of Science in Zoology (Biomedical Stream) with a minor in Chemistry at Brandon University and earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Indiana University School of Optometry. During his training, he served as a Clinical Sciences Associate Instructor and completed externships in hospital-based care, refractive surgery, and community health. He also contributed to clinical research involving multifocal contact lenses and was inducted into The Gold Key Optometric Honor Society.
His career has spanned a variety of clinical settings across the U.S. and Canada, including private practices, refractive surgery centers, and specialty clinics. He has extensive experience in contact lenses, ocular disease diagnosis and management, and co-managing glaucoma, cataract, and laser vision correction patients alongside ophthalmologists. Dr. Matt was repeatedly ranked in the Top-3 pediatric optometrists in Manitoba, but enjoys seeing patients of all ages. He is committed to patient education and ensuring people understand their eye health and treatment options.
Beyond clinical practice, he has participated in professional education and industry collaboration. His work includes serving as a key opinion leader for contact lens technologies, publishing a peer-reviewed teaching case report on diabetic ocular complications, and delivering lectures on presbyopia, glaucoma, scleral lenses, and dry eye disease. He has also volunteered with VOSH, pediatric outreach programs, and both provincial and state optometric associations.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Matt spends much of his time outdoors with his family. He enjoys fishing and ice fishing with his young son, making annual trips to Manitoba for bird hunting, and heading to South Dakota for pheasant season. At home, he’s known for “Dad’s famous chocolate pancakes,” tackling DIY projects that often take (much) longer than planned, and staying active by coaching hockey and soccer.
He also enjoys playing hockey, golfing with friends, trying new beers and whiskies, and biking the Luce Line trail. Dr. Matt and his wife—also an optometrist—keep busy with their 2 young children, and their 2 dogs. He values time with family and friends in both Minnesota and Canada, and he never turns down dessert.
